Michael Saunders is a homegrown product of Lambrick Park Secondary who went on to enjoy a sixteen-year professional baseball career, including nine seasons in Major League Baseball. From 2009–2017, Saunders played for the Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, and Philadelphia Phillies. Drafted by Seattle in 2004, he made his MLB debut in left field wearing #55.
His standout season came with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he earned an All-Star selection while setting career bests with 24 home runs and 140 games played.
Saunders has proudly represented Canada on the international stage—most notably at the 2008 Olympics and the 2013 World Baseball Classic, where he was named to the All-World Team.
After retiring in 2019, Saunders transitioned into coaching. He served as manager of the Atlanta Braves’ Single-A affiliate from 2020–2021, before being promoted to the Braves’ Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator from 2022–2024. In 2025, Saunders continued his coaching career in the same role with the Seattle Mariners.
